An Introduction to the Chakras

Initially I hestitated about starting this blog series, especially after posting about me moving away from Tantra. But I cannot deny the profound influence Tantra has had on my work and personal life.

I approach my work with an informed but spiritual perspective. I aim to explore with my clients the connection between energy and feeling your best—mentally, physically, and emotionally. A big part of this approach centers on my understanding of the chakras, which are essentially seven key energy centers in your body.

These chakras are believed to affect how grounded, energized, and balanced you feel. When they’re in sync, you’re more likely to feel in balance and harmony with the world around you. When they’re out of balance, though, you might feel off, stuck, or even unwell.

In this blog series, we’ll break down the basics of each chakra, and highlight what can throw them off.

The Seven Chakras: A Quick Guide

Think of your chakras as energy hubs that run along your spine, from your tailbone to the top of your head. Each one connects to different parts of your physical and emotional self:

  • Root Chakra (Muladhara): Found at the base of your spine, this one’s all about feeling grounded, safe, and secure.

  • Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Below your navel, this center is tied to creativity, pleasure, and emotional flow.

  • Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): In the upper abdomen, this governs confidence, personal power, and motivation.

  • Heart Chakra (Anahata): Located in the middle of your chest, it’s your hub for love, compassion, and connection.

  • Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): As the name suggests, it’s at your throat and is tied to communication and self-expression.

  • Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Between your eyebrows, this one’s all about intuition, insight, and clarity of thought.

  • Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): At the very top of your head, it’s connected to spirituality and your sense of being part of the divine.

When all seven chakras are aligned and working together, you’re more likely to feel strong, connected, and in tune with yourself. But if one gets blocked or overactive, it can throw off the entire system. The good news? There are tools and techniques to help bring them back into balance.

Stick around as we dive deeper into each chakra in the coming weeks. You’ll learn more about what they do, why they matter, and how to keep your energy running smoothly. Whether you’re totally new to this or just want to fine-tune your practice, I’m here to guide you.
