5 Books to Enhance Your Sacred Sexuality Practice

Sacred sexuality is a spiritual practice that can enrich your life, deepen your connection to yourself and others, and help you achieve personal growth. However, it's not always easy to find the right resources as there are so many. Some books on the topic focus on positions or exploring different sexual acts, while others delve too deeply into the philosophy and lose any means of practicality. However, there are a few titles that stand out from the rest by incorporating spirituality, sensuality, and practicality into their teachings. Here are five great books to read if you're interested in enriching or beginning your sacred sexuality practice:

Urban Tantra: Sacred Sex for the Twenty-First Century by Barbara Carellas

Urban Tantra: Sacred Sex for the Twenty-First Century is an excellent resource for beginners looking to explore sacred sexuality. It’s a great introduction to tantra, which is the practice of connecting with your body and your partner(s) in a way that allows you to experience oneness with yourself and others.

Barbara Carellas—the author and founder of Urban Tantra—is also my teacher, so I can absolutely vouch for this book. Her style is easy to read and inclusive, making complex concepts accessible without talking down to readers. If you're just starting out on your journey toward becoming more connected with yourself and others through sexual energy, this book will be an invaluable guide for you.

The Art of Receiving and Giving: The Wheel of Consent by Betty Martin

This book is all about consent, which is an essential part of any conversation that involves sex, or sexual energy.. It's not just about saying "yes" or "no"; it's also about checking in with each other and making sure both people are happy with what's happening in the present moment. As Martin writes: “You don't give consent, you arrive at consent—together."

I read this book after a lifetime of experiences in which I felt I wasn't being heard or understood. Reading The Art of Receiving and Giving made me realize so many of us have never formally received or been given consent for anything. Reading this book underlined for me how important this conversation was for the greater whole of society and the reality that these discussions are never easy but they help us grow closer as family members, friends and lovers over time.

Kundalini: Divine Energy, Divine Life by Cyndi Dale

Kundalini: Divine Energy, Divine Life is a book about the chakra system and kundalini energy. It teaches you how to become aware of how powerful kundalini energy is, how it presents itself in your physical body as well as its spiritual significance. With insightful meditations and exercises you can explore your personal connection to each of the seven chakras and how to cultivate kundalini energy. This one is a truly wonderful read!

The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida

This book was written to help men understand how they can succeed in realms far beyond the sexual. The superior man lives his life as an art, utilizing his masculine and feminine energies in harmony to create a beautiful masterpiece. This book gives an inside look at the aspects of life that most men have never considered before, such as mastery over their own bodies—and minds—as well as mastery over others (professional and personal). It will also help you cultivate your divine masculine so that you may be able to give love without fear or neediness and intuitively know your next step forward.

The Multi-Orgasmic Man by Mantak Chia, Douglas Abrams

Mantak Chia is the author of over thirty books on Taoist sexuality while Douglas Abrams Arava is an expert on internal arts and energy medicine who has been a student of Taoism for decades.

In this bestseller, they teach men (and those who love them) how to increase their sexual energy, improve their lovemaking skills, and have multiple orgasms - without medication or surgery.

The book includes a step-by-step program complete with exercises that can be done anywhere at any time; it also explains how to control ejaculation so that men can enjoy sex for hours instead of minutes. Both writers also co-authored The Multi-Orgasmic Couple, a notable follow-up.

I feel these books are a great starting place. Sacred sexuality is a very personal journey of connection, intimacy, and fulfillment. It’s a voyage that begins inward and pours outward, dousing your life in the richness and softness the divine uncovers within us. Try some of these books and practice what they teach, and find how much more fulfilling and intimate your relationship to life can be.
